World Renew - Uganda
How can conservation agriculture lift people out of poverty? Various communities in Kaberamaido District in Eastern Uganda have been finding out. In the Lake Kyoga area, where 70% of people are known to be illiterate and drought is a common occurrence, World Renew’s partner organisation, the Kaberamaido Mission Development Program (KMDP), has been training local communities on farming techniques such as mulching, composting and crop diversification. By implementing these methods, they are now helping their crops to flourish for longer in spite of dry conditions. In addition, KMDP’s literacy programme is having a life-changing and empowering impact on women’s lives, enabling them to manage money, read and understand medication labels and even help their children with homework.
